Agents search for CPD in their own city because conferences used to be the way to get Category A points. In 2026 the OMARA rules are the same in every state, and nearly all approved CPD runs online. What changes with your city is the clock.
CPD requirements for registered migration agents are set nationally by the OMARA. There are no state rules, no state providers' lists and no local point quotas. Live Category A workshops on Zoom count the same from Perth as from Parramatta; the only thing to manage is the time zone.
Widen's live sessions are scheduled in Sydney time (AEDT from October to April, AEST otherwise). A session listed at 9:00 am Sydney time starts at:
| Where you are | October to early April (AEDT) | April to October (AEST) |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | 9:00 am | 9:00 am |
| Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns | 8:00 am | 9:00 am |
| Adelaide | 8:30 am | 8:30 am |
| Darwin | 7:30 am | 8:30 am |
| Perth | 6:00 am | 7:00 am |
| Auckland | 11:00 am | 11:00 am |
Every booking confirmation and reminder states the time in Sydney time, and the Zoom link opens a calendar entry that converts for your device. Perth agents: the afternoon sessions of a CPD Weekend (1:30 pm and 3:45 pm Sydney time) land late morning and early afternoon in Perth, which is why a two-day weekend still delivers a full year from WA.
The largest concentrations of RMAs and the only cities where in-person CPD runs with any regularity: one-day workshops and the annual conferences. In-person workshops are outside the 6-online-points-per-24-hours cap, which is their one structural advantage. Check the activity is approved as Category A and that the participant cap is respected before paying conference prices for the points.
Queensland does not observe daylight saving, so from October to April every Sydney-time session is an hour earlier on your clock. Community legal centres in Queensland sometimes run approved seminars for their own staff; for everyone else, online is the practical route.
The hardest time zone for east-coast schedules. A 9:00 am Sydney session is 6:00 am in summer. Favour the late-morning and afternoon Sydney slots, and use self-paced modules, which have no clock at all, for the Category B half of the year.
Half-hour offsets catch people out on the day. Set the calendar entry from the confirmation email rather than converting in your head.
Nothing changes. Agents practising from regional Australia, New Zealand or further afield complete the same online activities. Overseas agents and CPD →
