At least 5 of your 10 CPD points must be Category A. Here's what that means, what counts, and why it's the part most agents leave too late.
Of your 10 CPD points each registration period, a minimum of 5 must be Category A (interactive). The rest can be Category B.
Category A is interactive, structured learning. To count, an activity must involve real-time discussion among participants and/or interactive participation tools. Typical Category A activities include:
Category B is self-paced learning — most commonly private study with assessment. It counts toward your 10 points, but not toward the minimum 5 Category A points. Under the rules from 1 April 2026, a private-study activity must be completed within 12 months of enrolment.
| Category A | Category B | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Interactive / live | Self-paced |
| Examples | Workshops, seminars, conferences | Private study with assessment |
| Minimum required | 5 of 10 points | No minimum |
Self-paced (Category B) modules are easy to knock out anytime. Category A is harder because live sessions run to a schedule and can fill up. Every renewal, agents realise late that they still need interactive points — and scramble. The fix is simple: book your Category A live sessions early and fill the rest with self-paced modules.
Widen CPD runs OMARA-approved live Category A sessions and self-paced Category B modules — including the mandatory ethics and Code of Conduct topics. A Points Pass lets you mix and match.
